As of 1 July, insurance for high risk areas like the South Coast have gone up 50%
Depending on your location, hurricane insurance is now in the area of RD$12/RD$1000 of assesment value. A RD$12,000,000 villa will pay RD$144,000 per year for hurricane insurance.
Oh yes, earthquake insurance has gone up, too.

If you are on the North Coast, say from Cabrera west, don't worry too much about hurricanes.

Puerto Plata is full of 100 year old wooden structures..and Sosúa has a lot of 60-70 year old wooden structures (at least it used to have them!! :p)....

So, weigh your odds....
