I know someone who needs 800 dollars to pay for her child's semester at a Dominican University. They are not US citizens. They are Dominicans. Besides the bank, how can she get a loan to pay for it? She can pay it back by the end of the month.

Depends. If the child is a good student there are student loan programs available. There are government scholarship programs. There are local, municipal programs. All this should have been sorted out months ago. And
IF this is on the up and up, all students at all universities can pay per month.

So, this is either a rip off, or the mother needs cash for something else.

$200 will get it done until October in most of the universities....and if you can tell me which university, maybe i can get you more information.

Dominican loan sharks are ubiquitous. They can be found around any employer on pay day making their collections. I hear the going rate is 10%-20% per month.

INTEC is now RD$850 a credit. A 20 credit class load would be RD$17,000, plus at least RD$5,000 or RD$6,000 as a registration fee = RD$23,000 ./. RD$32.75 =US$702 and change.

Which is why i asked where the child was going to school.. Let's see what the poster has to say.

Which leads to the question: How can she pay off RD$26,300 by the end of the month and not have six or seven thousand now????

The Colegio Evangelico is one of the least expensive schools in Santiago. De la Salle is RD$4000 a month, Instituto Da Vinci is more than that. Las Américas is about RD$3600 and Sagrado is somewhere in between.
