Starting tonight, joint military/police patrols will be patrolling major urban centers in the DR, enforcing a 12 midnight curfew for all businesses selling alcoholic beverages. These measures are intended not to fight crime, but to reduce crime by discouraging people away from nighttime entertainment activities in order to reduce the exposure of the general public to crime. President Fernandez appears to have succumbed to the advise of political associates who want his administration to steer more and more toward a dictatorial regime...

This will last only a few days. Dominicans will not let them stop the music and drink beer when we have constant blackouts in barrios. People walk out and go to monumento late at night to get away from the blackout heat at home.

azb-just got off the phone with SD--the curfew it seems does not apply to drinking in the streets only in places that sell it.
At least this is what I understand

Does anyone still believe this country is no different from other countries? Crime is rampent. You can't tell the good guys from the bad guys. At least the government is making an attempt to bring it under control before countries start putting the DR on the do not visit list.
