I cant tell you about Playa Dorada specifically but i'm guessing its the same as Sosua everywhere is being shut down at 12 from sunday through thursday and at 2 friday and sat, if you are on the streets after these times expect to get stopped by police or military and asked what you are doing. Even the disco in the Casa Marina ai in Sosua is being shut down at 12.

I heard that the 24 hour bar at Fun Tropical is not affected.
I would assume the disco is also okay.
This was from Bobfromcanada at Debbie's.

I would like to know about the casinos, Mangu, and Hemingway's which are probably affected.

I am surprised to hear that Casa Marina is affected since the disco apparently is not open to non-guests.

I hope this nonsense gets rectified soon.:tired:

Late Licence's

See they have done this all wrong cause they are going to turn a great place into a boring one.... I wont go back if I cant party after 12. It would be good to know how mangu and hemmingsway, roadway crazy moon etc etc are going to cope

Hemingways, Mangu etc are all effected by the new laws.....they have to close at 12 on a week night and 2 on the weekend....

Personally I think it's ridiculous.....many people come on holiday to party at night - they don't come to go to bed by 12. I don't think this new law will last long in Playa Dorada as it's surely going to have a negative impact on tourism. The problem is that if they make an exception to the rule for the Playa Dorada complex then every night will be like the weekends used to be in terms of the place being full of Dominicans.....if they can't drink and party till late in town then they will all flock to Playa Dorada instead......which will also be a problem.

Let's see what happens.

Well this way the police will know where the concentration of locals/sankies/trouble makers are instead of searching the city on a larger scale. But I hope this is not the case with AI's, it will affect tourism largely, and in return businesses will suffer. They need to come up with a better solution to this problem. I am hearing conflicting stories on this too. My friends from Santo Domingo say AI's will not be affected. I will be getting in touch with my friend who's in management at Iberostar Costa Dorada to find out first hand. Keep you posted.

I called yesterday with my friends in Gran Ventana and Fun Tropical
In this moment the hotels are not affected, but all public places in playa dorada follow the rule. Roadway is during the week open from 11.00pm to midnight. I agree that this is not THE solution, but they have to start somewhere. For tourism it is no good but all the local people from Puerto Plata I spoke to are very happy with this new rule (so far). I expect in a couple of weeks they will see it different when people in bars and disco's got fired. Managers and owners from bars in Sosua came together last Sunday and are writing a letter to the president to tell him that this is not good for employment in the tourist area's.

As reported in Hoy newspaper, Police Chief Bernardo Santana Paez says that violent crimes are down by 50% as a result of the new crime-fighting measures. He said that while between Thursday, 20 July and Sunday 23 July there were 24 deaths and 63 injured from gunshot or knife wounds, during this same period last week, the total number of deaths was 12 and injured 34. He said that the trend is for crime to decline as patrolling operations are honed. He said that on average there would be 15 deaths in colmadones, bars and discotheques that now have to close by midnight on weekdays and Sundays and are allowed to remain open until 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Santana said that after the curfew was imposed, there has not been a single case of violence in these drinking spots.
Santana told Hoy newspaper that in the past, youths would drink until 3 or 4 am, and drunk, they would hit the streets firing shots into the air. "This was like Star Wars," he commented, explaining that as a result people would be injured and even killed by these stray bullets.
Santana said that the measures would continue "indefinitely", and that they could be strengthened.

Maybe it will be lasting longer than people think?

Maybe they could but thats how things are happening at the moment. I prefer town to ai clubs myself, it seems no-one is escaping it at the moment apart from the clubs owned by police from what ive read!

Spoke to a manager of one of the casinos. He said laws controlling casino operations limit their hours of operation from 4PM to 4AM. Their legal advisor has told them this cannot be changed by Presidential decree, but must be changed by the legislature. So they are operating under their normal schedules (open until 3AM), but are closing their cash bars at midnight (2AM Friday and Saturday). They are continuing to provide complimentary drinks to the players until closing. So far they have had no problems.

Actually, everything the President is doing lately with the excuse of fighting crime is against the law. There have been thousands of arrests in the last few days, not considerig the business closings. All this is illegal. The President could be impeached. But he won't, his party controls both chambers of Congress. Just like George W....

Do you mean 11 AM?

Thanks for the updates ChicaBianca and Daydream.

no 11.00pm to midnight, so only 1 hour. The casino's are open their normal times but after midnight (weekend 2.00am) they will not serve any alcoholic drinks.
