The condominium where I live is insured by Seguros Popular, an affiliate of Banco Popular. It is a major company and will insure in US dollars if you pay the premium in dollars. Our coverage includes hurricane damage.

This is just my guess but...

Almost everything (often including the roof itself) is built with concrete blocks and other heavy materials here, as oposed to say Florida where after a major storm you'll see only the foundation left...which to my knowledge is the only heavy/concrete part of a typical FL house.

Yes, after Georges in 1998 we had a bit of a leak in our old house. Filed a claim and received payment (company was Monumental de Seguros). They didn't even send an assessor to visit to view the damage; they just asked for a builder's estimate to put it right. After that was supplied they paid in a matter of a couple of weeks. Mind you, it was a small amount and we are in Puerto Plata. Most of the Georges damage was down south where whole villages were washed away so all the assessors were busy with larger claims.

There must be people who post here who live in some of the areas that received major damage from Georges, so it would be interesting to hear from them.

Deductible?

What is the duductible for hurricane damage in the DR. In FL it is 5% of the home value. Is there a question in the DR as to wind vs water damage?
