SAN FRANCISCO -- With the 50th anniversary of Ozzie Virgil becoming the first Dominican in Major League Baseball with the New York Giants coming September 23, the club will honor their rich history in the Dominican Republic this month by announcing a field renovation in manager Felipe Alou's hometown of Haina and hosting a September 27 screening of "Republic of Baseball: The Dominican Giants of the American Game"

The Giants Community Fund and Moises Alou will fund the renovation of four baseball fields at Hogar Escuela in the city of Haina, which is a suburb just west of Santo Domingo. The renovation project is scheduled to start in October and be completed in February.

I'm planning on attending the event if I'm not working in Haina that day.
