Re: Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort

Expect very little single nightlife in the Punta Cana area no matter where you stay. The hotel discos are filled with the same couples that stay at the resorts. I've been to the Bavaro Beach Resort twice, I hit the disco every night, and at all times, it was pretty much all tourist couples. Still, the disco was usually full and fun by 1am. The disco at the Bavaro resort is dressy and plays a mixture of top-40, house music, merengue, and salsa and they hire individual dancers to gyrate on raised platforms.

The only single nightlife you will find is located at Bavaro Plaza, where the Salsa club is filled with single Dominican men and Dominican couples and the Coco's Disco is filled with 75% tourist couples and about 25% single Dominican women, most looking for money, with a few Dominican couples mixed in. You would have to take a cab to get to this plaza from the Bavaro Beach Resort but it is walking distance from the Melia All Suites, aka, Melia Bavaro. If you want single life, head for the north (Puerto Plata/Sosua/Cabarete) or south (Santo Domingo/Boca Chica) coast.

The Casino in the Bavaro Beach Palace has about the same excitement level as a cruise ship casino.

As previously posted, "Physicians consulted by DR1 say that prophylaxis is not recommended because the gain is not worth the risk of taking the medicine but each person should consult their physician prior to making this decision. In the very unlikely case you fall ill with malaria, the adequate dose of Chloroquine will release the sickness in 24-72 hours. In the Bavaro zone, 12 cases of malaria were reported in 1999. About one million tourists visited that area last year"
