Kool,
I'm glad to hear it.
The DR has just scratched the surface of the American market.
Canadians have known about it for a long time, but the Americans have only started coming here in droves, in the last five years.

couple of month ago they had a Pacific Life styled ad on CNN featuring a web and her cub off the coast of Samana. It was played mainly during the morning shows. They also heavily advertise the Colonial Zone and Golf and the beaches on CNN en espan~ol's Destinos program.

The Economist seems to like it:

Dominican Republic industry: Tourism update

FROM THE ECONOMIST INTELLIGENCE UNIT

According to the Central Bank, output in hotels, bars and restaurants (a proxy for tourism activity) expanded by 4.8% in the first quarter, compared with a rise of 17.1% a year earlier. Hotel room capacity grew by a mere 0.4%, while occupancy rose by 2.9%. Non-resident arrivals rose by 8.8%, although tourism earnings measured in US dollars increased by only 3.9%. According to the latest data for passenger arrivals, there was a 17.3% year-on-year increase in foreign passenger arrivals in April-June, pointing to an upturn in activity for the sector as a whole in the second quarter.

These impressive rates of growth come despite upwards pressure on the cost of air travel owing to soaring oil prices, suggesting that the marketing efforts of the government and private sector are proving effective, particularly in North America-the largest market with a 52.7% share of total non-resident foreign passenger arrivals. Arrivals from the US (the single country with the largest share by far, 32.9%) grew by an impressive 11.8%, and Canadian arrivals (the second-largest country of origin) grew by 21.5%. Passenger arrivals from Europe (western and eastern) grew by only 5.3%, leading to a fall in the share of the market, to 39.5%.
