Several of us have been experimenting with some new DNS numbers, and so far, all the results have been favorable and have cured the problem.
The old "196" series of DNS numbers are the guilty ones.
Replace them with
200.88.127.22
200.88.127.23
If you leave them in "automatic, they will seek out the "196" numbers, so you have to manually insert the new numbers.
Anyone who does not know how to do it can ask here or contact me.

Changed mine, so far I don't see any difference. (But that's because Verizon hates me)
It's amazing. Up until a few months ago, I NEVER had a problem with them.
Now, they're falling on me like cats & dogs. I won't bore anyone with the details. It would take the rest of the day to type..
Hey JD,
Does that mean that you were suffering from intermittent slowdown problems, as we were, then you changed the DNS numbers to the above mentioned new ones, and it did NOT resolve your problem?

Funny, I haven't changed mine yet (don't want to buggerup the settings without someone at hand who knows about these things) but today and yesterday it's been slightly better. Google was a little slow in opening, but gmail has been behaving.

When gmail won't open, try entering the url https://mail.google.com manually (as opposed to clicking on the bookmark) and you'll see the difference.

That's a big 10-4, Rocky.

I changed it an hour or so ago, and everything is the same to me.
I tried opening my gmail, google, yahoo, and a few others, and don't see an improvement.

And I've got the 768 kbps line. the google search page won't even open..
Would you mind going back to those settings and check to see that they are still there?
Then, if they are, perhaps try a reboot.
Are you on wifi?
Could you go to this speed testing website, and do 5 or 6 tests in a row, and give us the copies of the results?
SpeedTest
ie: Votre bande passante actuelle : <SCRIPT> document.write(kbps);</SCRIPT>621.5 kbps
Thanks, Marco.

Aw, cmon Chiri, live dangerously! Change those little buggers, if it doesn't help, change them back.
Rocky, I'm hardwired. I just checked, and the new config. is still there.

let me do two different speed tests, with cnet and pecunia

I'll be back in a few..
FYI: Cnet is baloney.
When I had the 256 line, it always measured 304.7.
Now I bumped it up to the faster speed, it still reads 304.7.
Pecunia is great and fast.

What about if you take out those "196" numbers, just in case?

It is normal for some deviation, as well as the 768 lines never give you the full advertised speed, and the farther you are from the main trunk, the less speed you get.
What we are trying to overcome is slowdowns that dropped below dial up speed, that made it difficult or impossible to navigate.
Here are some examples of speed tests, before changing the DNS numbers.
<SCRIPT> document.write(kbps);</SCRIPT>94.4 kbps
357.6 kbps
2.4 kbps
42.1 kbps
29.3 kbps
33.8 kbps
19.7 kbps
8.4 kbp
18.8 kbps
13.1 kbps
<O:p</O:p

Since changing the DNS numbers, I get readings from 300 to 700, but mostly in the 600's.</O:p>

Ok, here's the results..
I agree with you about cnet, it never changes.

Anyway, I did 6 tests, alternating between cnet and pecunia(if you do one test after another on pecunia, the results get skewed. More on that in a sec)

So, before I rebooted, I got: (C = cnet, P = pecunia)
C304.7, P 599.1, C304.7, P 352.6, C304.7, P326.1

After the reboot, I got:
C304.7, P554.3, C304.7, P343.9, C304.7, P299.6

So you can see, no gain by rebooting.

And to test what I've been told about sequencial tests on pecunia, I did 4 in a row, refreshing the page, and got:
299.6, 702.1, 885.0, 970.3, 791.5

I sincerely doubt those last numbers, but it sure confirms that you can't sequence one test after another..
I do them sequentially, by hitting the "refaire le test" option.
The results you are getting seem normal for a 768 line, specially if you are not as close to the main trunk as we are.
We are 200 yards away.
That being said, are you still experiencing difficulty getting into certain websites?
If so, do you know how to ping them for return times?
