Last weekend, a couple of guys opened a No Limit Texas Hold Em table in the Dominican Fiesta hotel in Santo Domingo. I have played 3 nights and by far, this is the best poker table I have come across in this country.

The owners of this table have gone the extra mile to make this a very comfortable, respectful, enjoyable poker table. Each night there is a free buffett exclusively for the players. One night there was a beautiful pan of lasagna catered from a local restaurant. Another night there were delicious sandwich wraps of roast beef and tuna. Tonight is Mexican night with chicken, beef or pork hard and soft tacos with all the works. Additionally, there is free top shelf booze, beer, cigarettes, etc. for the players.

The table also has rules similar to the best American tables which include proper table etiquette and no smoking at the table. Noticebly absent is the yelling, argueing, slapping the table and other forms of poor behavior that are omnipresent in poker tables in the Dominican Republic. Here, you act like a gentleman.

You can also call ahead to reserve a seat, however, because this is not an advertisement I dont feel I should provide the necessary contact information but rather I suggest than anyone looking to obtain an avenue to reserving a seat should stop by the table and speak with one of the owners.

The blinds are 100, 200 pesos with no antees. The rake is different to most casinos here and I feel better for the players. Instead of the usual 5% rake with no cap, this table has instituted 0 rake up to a 1000 peso pot, a 100 pesos rake between 1000 and 2000 and a 200 peso rake from a 2000 pesos pot up. Additionally, for each 2000 pesos plus pot, 100 pesos is raked going directly into a jackpot for anyone who makes a royal flush. With the size of some of the pots I have seen there with some over 50,000 pesos, this system definately benefits the players.

I would call the caliber of players at the table "pretty good" with a couple of "very good players". I, myself have won over 24,000 pesos in 3 nights. Some people have come by and dropped quite a bit of money. A good player can definately have a good night playing here.

I hope to see some of you there. Anyone with any questions such as directions, etc. can pm me.

So the rest of us know what to look out for, what kind of shenanigans are we talking about?

have seen some amateur hour collusion at some casinos, but generally from people who don't understand the game well enough to collude effectively.

Pretty sad when you can't even cheat right!

Cheers!

The guys at the Diamante Casino are pretty good at it, couldn't find their signals but I could tell from the way they were betting that there was collusion.

The casino on the Malecon (if you wanna play with the motoconchistos) or Ocean World Casino. I believe they have a game at the Jack Tar Casino in Playa Dorada also.

Poker Players,

What kind of interest might there be in D.R. for players to win big money in tournaments?

And how much is big money?
