I watched a program today that profiled recent testing on the Seville 'bones', writings of Colon and Genoese documents.
The 'profiling' done be various scientific methods indicate that Columbus was not Italian at all but appeared to be a Castillian noble who was possibly a mercenary fighting against the very monarchy that later financed his 'voyage of discovery'.
The genetic material from Hernando was partially matched to that of Diego but could not be matched with that of "Christopher" because of the degredation of the material from 'Chris'. The scientists are waiting for newer methods to re-test the material. However the examination of the bones indicated that Chris was much older than the Genovese records indicated at the time of his death so the Genovese "chris" could not have been the same Chris that discovered America.
While results were not conclusive they did add more mystery to the man and opened up a lot more questions about who he really was and what his origins were.
