I took Caribe Tours from Nagua to Samana in June. I took a taxi from Sosua to Nagua although I think you can take the bus.

The bus was full on the return trip so I assume it's a busy route.

Is this just a random guagua or is there any particular office where you can get tickets in advance?

Hi D,

Transporte Papagayo operates Samana Puerto Plata route, leaving Samana at
2:00p.m.(from the market) arriving POP around 6:00p.m. will stop on the highway
in front of the road to POP airport, but not at the airport terminal.(Unions
things). So, you have to carry your luggage on the road to POP airport for 500+
meters, till the terminal.

The bus, 52 passengers, is maroon in color, but the owner likes to call the
color "Vino Rojo" and his got "Papagayo" written on the
windshield.

The owner it's a very nice guy and his name is Rufino Salvador, if you got a
larger party(=good tips), he even will pick you up from Las Terrenas, his cell
1.809.749.6415(Spanish only). Sometime, when his bus broke down he will run the
same route with a smaller light blue color bus with no marking at all. Better
call to be sure you getting on the right bus, and don't end up in Santiago, God
forbid. LOL

Sure, they are other buses doing the same route, but I heard some odd story,
even locals refuse to take the "other" bus for various reasons,
"The Chicken Bus" means anything to you?

God luck,
WebDev

P.S. Transporte Papagayo leave POP to Samana at 6:45a.m. from the Hospital front
in POP and passing through Sosua around 7:00a.m. arriving is Samana around
10:30a.m. and BTW is no advance ticket purchase or "ticket wicket".
Pay to the driver in CASH, pesos Dominicanos, no checks Visa or Mr. Card.

Hi Bob,

Like I said before, this guy will stop at your house to pick you up, if is on his route. Give him a call on his cell, not at the house, unless you want to be pick up before 7a.m. in Puerto Plata. I notice he will not stop for some people, hope you are not one of them. Selective? I don't know.

Thanks,I am visiting a friend in sosua, and have taken the small guagua from sosua to samana, and flagged him down across from parada in sosua...I thought I would try the larger bus,as the small guagua was, should I say,crowded.....
I will call him when I am in sosua...
again,thanks.

just thought i'd let you know how it worked out getting back from Las Terrenas to Sosua/Caberete.

Spoke with the guy from transportes papagaio a couple of times and he seemed quite nice and even said that he may be coming to Las Terrenas to pick something up(it turned out he was going to do this another day).

We took a pick up truck down to Sanchez (hold on tight) and waited at the Texaco gge on the main highway. As we were waiting we were appproached by a guy in a spotless aircon minivan who was on his way to POP to pick up some tourists and take them to a resort in Samana, so he was efectively travelling empty. He offered to take us for the same price i.e $250 RD p/p to Cabarete.

Out of courtesy we waited 10mins over the agreed time but as he didnt show we took the other guys offer. I'm not saying he is not reliable just be aware that that highway is well travelled and there may be other options.

The DR is a place where everyone is looking to make some money. If the price is right there are unconventional ways of getting from A to B
