Great online maps!

A kind hearted person took the time to send me links to great online maps of the DR. I thought others might like to see them.

The first requires Macromedia Flash 4 and is way too cool. <A HREF="http://www.hispaniola.com/DR/maps/flash3/flash3map.html">http://www.hispaniola.com/DR/maps/flash3/flash3map.html</A>

The second is a wallpaer size map of the country with pretty good detail. <A HREF="http://www.hispaniola.com/DR/maps/DRmapLarge.html">http://www.hispaniola.com/DR/maps/DRmapLarge.html</A>

You may wish to check out the root URL as there is more than maps there.

Re: Great online maps?

The maps look great but are not very useful for somebody travelling around. They don't even have the main highway from Santo Domingo to Santiago and the smaller roads are totally inacurate. If you want to get really lost - take this map with you!

Re: Great online maps?

I just wanted the maps to get a feel for the place. For general purposes as opposed to deciding routes for the road trip. Anyone would get a current roadmap once incountry as opposed to trying to use some .gif from the internet. Moreover the Flash map is more then just roads. It gives overlays for temperature (winter or summer) and precipitation. If you would like to be helpful and point us to something even more accurate then by all means it would be appreciated. Apparently you can get a good map of the DR at any Staples in the US for a few dollars.

yes, that is true about Staples selling good maps of DR. They are laminated, can be marked and wiped clean, and will not be ruined by rain. And they are very complete. They sell for about $6 and are on display at the front of any Staples store in New Hampshire, so I assume they are in others around New England and the country.

Boy this new format is something to get used to!
