One way ticket okay?

If you are flying American you may have a problem at the check in counter. If you make it to the DR you will have no problems.

If you do not have Dominican residency, the law says that you have to have a ticket that takes you out of the DR to somewhere else. That said, as SKY says, it depends if the check-in person notices and asks for your outgoing ticket.

If nothing else, include in your ticket a final leg to Puerto Rico, as anywhere else in the Caribbean you would choose to go to would take you either there, or to Miami, to continue on to anywhere in the Caribbean or South America.
