medical student volunteer

My son and I will be traveling to DR in December and would like to volunteer. I am a retired carpenter/cabinet maker and he is a 3rd year med student. We would like to do a short term volunteer in either a medical setting, orphanage or building. We would like to get to know
Dominicans and possibly stay with a family. ( We would be glad to pay for room and board).
Thanks for any help you can give us.

in santiago?

we live and work at a medical mission in santiago. It is possible your son could join our doctors on their weekly medical trips into the rural campos but you would need all your shots (hep a, b, typhoid, yellow fever, tetanus) for sure. there are also places we could use a carpenter in service sites in the city but funding materials for any projects would be an issue unless you were willing to donate those. pm me with the dates of when you'll be here if you are interested.
