For anyone who doesn't know that location, that's where the road that goes North from the old High Caribean Disco intersects with Alejo Martinez, often called the Playa Chiquita road.

For those who don't know who these people are, allow me to introduce them.
AAAS (Friends of the Animals of Sosua) started organizing almost 10 years ago.
Some of the goals they had, included starting a sterilization program for street dogs, of which there were many in those days.
This, of course, they have accomplished many times, with the help of Vets from abroad who have come down and donated their time and services.
Judy, from the Pet Lodge, is one of the principles, and I have never seen her turn down taking in an injured street dog, at great personal expense.
I could go on, but to suffice to say, it is a non profit organization that consists of a group of animal lovers with huge hearts, and a generous bunch they are.
I remember well the first "Dog Wash" day they organized in the Park that now houses the new casino.
Since then, the event has grown bigger and more comprehensive with all sorts of events to entertain.
They are in need of contributions, of course, but nobody will pressure you.
If you go to to the party, you will have a good time, learn a lot, and have an opportunity to participate and/or donate.
Of course, you are welcome to bring your pet.
Insane mad dogs, should be left at home, lol.

Just got back from the event. Despite the rain (and I do mean rain) a good time was had by all.

I went in the earlier part of the day while it was still sunny.
Bruno wanted to meet every dog there, including some wolf like creature, who's owner insisted there would be a fight if they got close, which of course, did not happen.
Big bad dogs just know better than to mess with him, even though he has never had a fight and just wants to be friends with them all.
The odd thing, is some folks brought in 7 giant Poodles who all looked like they were fresh out of the salon, and he had absolutely no interest whatsoever in meeting them.
They were beautiful works of art, and Bruno gave them the cold shoulder, like they were beneath contempt.

Lots and lots of people there, and I saw they had a special section for the kids, and they were teaching them about how to treat animals and pets.
Great idea.

Congrats

To Peter Pan, a dachsund/chihuahua mix for taking the grand prize? I think -- and his owner handler Shy(sp).
And to Steve and Igor for taking best in category, and all participants.....was a nice day....volunteers put on an excellent event.

Rocky, don't know if you saw Maya, the big Ridgeback/Great Dane mix but surely Bruno would've fallen for her, she was a real looker.

Congratulations to the AAAS for doing so much for the far too many stray/& other dogs on the north coast. It is tragic that some Dominicans do little to assuage the suffering of dogs and animals in general. Canadian Bob.

Dogs have historically received less respect than chickens, in the DR.
Groups like AAAS are doing wonders to change that.
