New York Times:

The Roco Ki real estate venture will open the Westin Roco Ki Beach and Golf Resort in Punta Cana in winter 2007, and is planning at least seven high-end hotels, in a resort that gives a nod to the Ta?no Indians who lived on the island before Columbus arrived. (It financed an archaeological dig on its land before beginning construction and is considering opening a museum nearby with the findings.) It is also a residential community: there was $100 million in sales the day those homes went on the market in April 2005, according to Nick Tawil Fernandez, the chief executive officer.

Travel Weekly:

It's hard to keep track of what's opening where and when in the booming Dominican Republic these days.

However, visitor figures indicate that the majority of the "who" in the tourism equation this year hails from North America. More than 51.9% of tourists originated from the U.S. and Canada from January through August, according to a report from the Dominican Republic's Central Bank, marking the first time that visitors from North America surpassed Europe in tourist arrivals to the Dominican Republic.

..
Then there's Roco Ki, the 2,700-acre, $4 billion resort community development project under construction in Punta Cana
<O:p
The first phase will debut in the fourth quarter of 2007 with the opening of Starwood Hotels & Resorts' 327-room Westin Roco Ki Beach & Golf Resort with six restaurants, a conference center, a Nick Faldo-designed 18-hole golf course, a water sports center, an 18,000-square-foot spa as well as luxury residences, villas and 130 Westin-branded condominiums, priced from $400,000 to $4 million.<O:p</O:p

Part of the landscape will include a botanical garden and a museum with artifacts and relics from local Taino Indians.

The Westin will be the first internationally branded European Plan hotel in Punta Cana, an area dominated by all-inclusives.
<O:pWestin guests, however, will be well taken care of in the culinary area: The resort will offer six restaurants, a variety of bars, a gourmet market and 24-hour room service
Although the Roco Ki project encompasses a massive destination resort, "it will operate and function as a close-knit community of employees, owners and guests," said Nick Tawil, president and CEO of Macau Beach Resort, developer of Roco Ki.

Roco Ki's Future is Bright
Those who become a member of the Roco Ki family will see more upscale facilities and services, and future additions for the next 10 years.
Future phases will include:

-A full-service, world-class marina, slated for opening by the end of 2009. Other high-end hotels, within the next 10 years.
-Three more golf courses, within the next 10 years.
-A watersports center offering a myriad of water recreation activities like diving and snorkeling, sailing, kayaking and parasailing, approximate opening date scheduled for early 2008.
-Retail shopping areas accented by features that bring the culture, hospitality and color of the Dominican Republic to life, within the next couple years.

The expanded vision of Roco Ki. ..

..notice the additional golf courses, the marina expanded way inland, additional planed luxury hotel resorts by the beach, what seems like a huge development by a future central lake connected to the sea via the marina, and all the additional residential developments around the new courses, etc. It's about four to five time as big as originally planned!!
