I went to Monte Cristi this past weekend and it was absolutely beautiful. I stayed in Monte Cristi but took time to go to Dijabon and traveled along the southern rim of the Cibao Valley to get back to Santo Domingo via Santiago.
I am planning to go back in the next several weeks and would like to take an alternate route.

In looking at the maps, the only "north/south" route going from Dijabon to Restauracion to Pedro Santana appears to go along the Haitian border and in places, actually looks as if you cross into Haiti. I am familiar with going through checkpoints but if I go this route, will I actually have to make a border crossing (which I obviously prefer not to do).

If anyone has experience with this route I would appreciate some information.

Thanks

There are some post on this board about doingthis.
You must register at one of the army posts before starting the journey.
the highway is not for cars, but i hear it cand be managed if you drive carefully.\
It is not that far, but you are at the "end of the world" so to speak.
Take extra water and some food, JIC. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition.

Have fun.
