Hi all,

I am visiting Puerto Plata during christmas, I am wondering about the Santo Domingo Day tour, is it worth to go? I know it takes 4 hrs ride to there, so wondering is it worth to go? What to do there, what include in the tour and how much?

Cheers

Excursions
City Tour. This will feature many of the top historical attractions mentioned above, plus time for shopping including a visit to the Mercado Modelo, a huge indoor crafts market in the Colonial City. Some city tours also include a visit to the National Aquarium and/or the Tres Ojos cave.

Note you can plan your own tour with the help of a friendly taxi driver or one of the freelance tour guides who hang out in the Colonial Zone.

Night Life. This tour is offered by various companies and may have different components, but all include a visit to the Guacara Taina cave disco and a city casino.

Colonial City Half-Day Tour. Visit the main monuments in the Colonial IS THIS ANY HELP http://www.dr1.com/travel/santodomingo/

Yes, Santo Domingo is worth a visit. We recommend overnighting in the city, though to get a feel for the nightlife. Come stay at one of the Colonial City hotels. See DR1 - Directories

You could easily get from Puerto Plata to Santo Domingo with Metro Tours or Caribe Tour buses. As it takes 4 hours a stop over night is probably a good idea. The most interesting area is the Zona Colonial - and with a good guide book you could easily do it yourself for the fraction of the cost of a "tour".

You can also custom tailor a trip to your interest around the zona colonial and the capital using a site like homeandabroad.com (a beta site linked to expedia)

I agree with all thats been said. My own recomendation is go with Metro Tours from POP is faster than Carribe tours because it does not stop as much and the coaches are nicer.
Once In Santa Domingo I can recomend Hotel El Conde its right in the center of Zonal Colonial cost about $65 for a double room.

It really is too far for a day trip you would spend more time traveling than seeing the capital, but thats just my opinion.
