Hello everyone.

I have a question about the name of my ex-spouse following divorce.

The facts:
She used our last names interchangeably prior to our divorce.
She wants to use my last name still, but I don't want her to.
Her name was never formally changed through any judicial procedure.
Our DR divorce decree is silent on this matter because we used her
maiden name throughout the procedure.

The questions:
What is the Dominican law on the sanctity of one's name, generally?
Is there any requirement in DR statute or case law that a woman
use her maiden name after divorce?
Must she employ her maiden name in the DR?

Nick

By the way... I'm a very satisfied former client of Fabio's.
Normally I'd ask him directly, but posted here because I thought
maybe more people would find any answer useful...

In the Dominican Republic a married woman keeps her maiden name. Her husband's last name is just added to her name, like this:

Ana Perez marries John Smith. Her married name would be Ana Perez de Smith. When she divorces, she'll be just Ana Perez.
