Re: visa for my Dominican girlfriend

I am also Canadian with a Dominican husband. When we were arranging his Visa to come to Canada, we first got him a Visitor's Visa. (Fairly easy) Once he was in the country, he applied for residency. Once that application is in the system, they will extend the Visitor's Visa and you are allowed to stay until you receive an answer on your residency application. Of course this may be different since you are not married but good luck anyway!

IT MAY WORK THAT WAY IN CANADA BUT NOT IN THE U.S.A. And, you can not convert one type visa to another in the U.S. You must return and re-apply. Sorry, but that is just the way it is. I don't think Jesus Christ could get a visa living in the DR to visit the U.S.A. I have been the route; I know.
