Hello All,
First,legal question.....
Is direct consular spouse visa available in DR?
Secondly, are DR marriages expensive or time consuming?
Now the details....
I've been in DR 3 days (I already hear "your nuts") and met a 18+ DR women (I'm 42).
If it works I'd sure be happy,if not oh well.
Interested in bringing her to US not staying here.
Please don't refer me to archives/posts as I'm working off my cell.Have read some but difficult/slow.
She works at a casino.......NOT "working" the casino but an actual employee.Takes a 40 min. Taxi 6 days a week to work.
Sure, she probably wants me for the free ride out of here but you sure can't hold that against her.
Her main concern was learning english in US......funny thing is I was on the same track. Her english very limited,my spanish better but not enough.
Classes would be #1 priority for us both.
Anyway, today's her day off.We are going to Boca chica Beach,my idea,to get better aquainted.
I met an available interpreter who has been extremely helpful & will be going too.He has connections here which may be useful down the road. (No it's not a "set-up" duet!)
I'm single,she's a 10 .......what do think!!

Put brain into gear

Hi Rob, can't help you with the legal stuff but thought I would give you my advice. I am similar age 43, visited Dominican Republic for the first time last year. Yes like you I have met a beautiful woman 29 from Santiago, but my main question to you is what's the rush. don't mean to be offensive but why would you get married to someone after 3 days. I am visiting for the 3rd time in January and will spend my time with my 'friend', she is a perfect host and guide around the country. Also she is slowly teaching me Spanish although i am still at basic level. I ring her twice a week and am slowly getting to know her, but as i repeat to you what is the rush.
Honestly Rob would you marry someone after 3 days in your own country so why would you when away from home???!!!

I love DR1. Where else can you read stuff like this, that makes you spit up coffee out of your nose for free! ....now I just have to wipe off my monitor.

hackman22, when you first come to the DR from Dumpsville, USA, they ALL look like 10's. After a few weeks, you will begin to see their faults, which are mostly non-cosmetic faults. Why don't you just offer to pay for her English lessons here, and then come back in 6 months, unannounced, and see if she has your photo pinned up next to her table at the casino, oorrrr, if she is busy chatting up another gringo with her newfound English skills. It's cheaper that way.

ummm, P.S. - the US Consulate is probably closed for most of the holidays. They are good at finding ways to not be open, and then when they do open, to complain about their workload. Maldito botellas.

I love this place. Thanks Rob.

yeah check sanity levels for wanting to marry girl after 3 days.

For all its worth, they're all great in the beginning but then you see the jealousy thing (among many others).

bringing a poor girl into the US will take years, lots of your time and money, and she might run to New York once she's there.

Umm, on the serious side now. Why do most first time visitors not understand that 99% of dominicans are soooo friendly to them, and not realize that it is just because they think the visitor has money (which they want ). In this situation, methinks both the chica AND the interpreter/guide are cashing in.

Try this. Tell the guide you are almost out of money, and that he will have to pay his own way to, and at Boca Chica. You will either see the nasty side of him if he thinks he isn't going to get paid, or you will choke on the dust thrown up from his sneakers as he hightails it out of there. Don't worry, he will come up with an original story, and plenty of people speak English in Boca Chica.

Same with chica. Tell her you want to go meet her family. then see if she doesn't come up with a shopping list in the next 10 minutes to take things to them. After all. 3 Kings Day is coming up fast, and after all, who can blame her, right?

When you get to Boca Chica..Take note of how many guys know your new found wife to be...Mabye Boca Chica was her previous employer and after the crackdown she looked for something else so found a floor cleaning job at a casino in SD...You must really have partied hard in 3 days....Mabye the Salt water will wake you up...Go past the reef and jump in the ocean water it's a few degrees cooler..Be careful the rocks are sharp......Go to the Bodega called El Maestro on Duarte Av..Ask for Luis tell him I sent you and he will tell you if she has been working as a prior Ho or not in BC...This is free holiday advice........Because you need something or someone to HELP YOU !!!!!!!!!!

From the original post:

"DR marriages expensive or time consuming?"

I have never been married but what I've seen from friends and family is that any marriage is expensive, especially if you want to get out. And they seem to be time consuming to me.

Rob,

First, glad you met a 10. Nothing to make life more exhilarating. I'm a bit older than you, and if anybody should rush, it should be me. But, I would heed all the good advice. If your new casino hottie truly loves you today, she will love you a year from now, so don't rush.

No matter what connections that other Dominicans might pose to you, the truth is that you are going before the American consulate, not the Dominican. Don't allow yourself to be duped. Dominicans cannot easily get U.S. Visas for other Dominicans. It does not work that way. Somebody, is shucking and jiving you.

Also, regardless of present time constraints, I would read the DR1 archives and message boards. I've had my share of madly-in-love girlfriends, whose true designs are really only to improve their day-to-day living lot. Can't say I blame them. But, if your new girlfriend (novia) wants marriage, understand that, even after marriage, it's going to take a couple years to get her out of the country. And if you have only known a girl a very short time and get married, that doesn't sit to well with the U.S visa reviewers. You can expect perhaps even another year tacked on, making a 3 - 5 year wait to get that person out of the D.R.

Make her wait a year or two, see if her real designs are a new apt. or a car. It will come out, because, if that's their true intentions, the waiting will make them squirm and you will hear "I need a better apartment, I need a car". And if you give your new girlfriend those things, chances are very slim that you are going to see want to leave the D.R. :squareeye

"Why BUY The Cow, When You Can Get The Milk For FREE???

That is what we used to say ,"Back On The Farm" in Illinois!

In the "DR", NOTHING" is free, but I think you get the picture! I know you had sex with "HER" the first time out! Right??? Weeeeeeeeell,so did every other guy who takes her out!! I know! I live here! "I" get the "COW" when you aren't here! Only I get it for 400 pesos a "POP",while you pay ten times that,or more!
Sex with a "teenager" is great stuff! Just remember that line about the "COW"! OK??

We all, "Been There Done That!", a hundred times before we got "Smart"! Take a lesson from us (I know you won't,you have to get burned a few times yourself before you wise up!) and "Milk" her for all you can get before you dump her!
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Remember, you don't pay a prostitute for SEX, you pay her to leave!!
