" Traditional Dominican Recipes ? in English

SANTO DOMINGO.- A book of 100 recipes, with full-color photography, lively anecdotes and an introduction to the history of the Dominican Republic?s cuisine is now available.

Aunt Clara's Dominican Cookbook is written in English, and is designed for a variety of users: visitors to the Dominican Republic who are interested in this Caribbean country?s rich and varied culinary tradition, ex-pat residents and nostalgic former residents. It is also much appreciated by foreigners married to Dominicans, who want to surprise their spouses ? or even impress their mothers-in-law! Another important group is second or third generation Dominicans living abroad, whose Spanish is rusty, and so prefer to use a cookbook in English.

The cookbook was published after three years of bringing Dominican recipes and culinary culture to the world on the popular DominicanCooking.com website, DominicanCooking.com

The site was constantly inundated with requests for a book version in English, seeing as such a resource did not exist.

As well as the 100 recipes, each illustrated by a full-color photo, the book includes cultural context, historical background and amusing articles by the three authors who write about their experiences of Dominican food lore from their particular points of view: Aunt Clara, Dominican born and bred, married to a Dane. Aunt Jane, a Canadian married to a Dominican, who lived in the DR for several years before settling in her native Canada. Aunt Ilana, from Gibraltar, married to a Dominican and living in the DR.

Two versions of the book are available, each with the same 100 traditional Dominican recipes. One is full color with color photos of each featured dish. The other is B&W with a color cover. It is the only Dominican cookbook in English currently in print.

Future projects include a new, expanded second edition, a Spanish version (again, due to popular demand) and a series of specialist titles on different aspects of Dominican cuisine. The books can be purchased online, from the Dominican Cooking website. "

So as a non cooking individual, you can bet I will purchase some for gifts!
