    A sad farewell to Franz Ureña Rib who was murdered last Saturday evening inside his home by several youthful intruders. Ureña Rib was principal violist with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional of the Dominican Republic.

    This was truly sad news. What gets me is that these murders are so absolutely negligent and unthinking -- people are getting killed over silly things like the contents of a wallet or a pair of sneakers, a cell phone, -- things that are not worth so much trouble, yet the perpetrators dont give it a thought, dont hesitate to kill for such negligible gains. one has to be completely stupid or thoroughly brutalized to act like this.

    It's a good thing crime is not escalating in the D.R.
