Hi, any suggestions for a family to do in the night beside the theme-night dinner and show in the hotel? We?re city family and we?re used to the outdoor strolling & caf? scene.

Thanks for sharing.

Go to the malecon, take a walk by the fortaliza, drop into tam tams or agua ceros and have a drink or go to mariposa for some good ice cream, If you like a lot of hookers and tourists then you go to sosua.

I'll second the malecon. Agua cerra's has pretty good wings, check out the vendor's selling bootleg Cd's. Spent a couple nights walking it in Feb, with 16 and 13yo boys. When are you going? The end of Feb is Carnival. The boys had a ball at it!

We are going during winter school break. I guessed it's carnival week. We're staying at the Sun Village Something. How long is the cab ride to town? I truly want the kids to see the local culture and not just the disney version.
Thanks.

Then you should go. Tons of people, live bands and plenty of food vendors. The boys were allowed to go up in the VIP stands to get good pictures of everything. Try the grilled steak (carne), the young one had 2 orders of it. Pick up a mask, would be great for a "show n tell' back at school. May seem a little intimidating at first as you won't see many tourists but don't worry, no one will bother you. Been to this many times and the only "bad" thing I've seen happen is 2 fights between a couple of drunks late at night (11). Go early in the evening for an hour or so and the family will have a great time.

Is the Bravissimo show in Ocean World or a stand-alone place? How much is the show? And does anyone know how much is the cab ride to town (POP) from Sun Village?

Many thanks for your suggestions and tips.

The Bravissima show is in Ocean World Casino. The show only is currently $35 US per person. Not sure if it is discounted for the kids.

The entire night is $69 US per person with a discount (I believe if there are 4) it includes prime rib and lobster dinner, drinks, dolphin and sea lion shows, and Bravissima show.

Sun Village is a 15 minute taxi ride to Puerto PLata. The taxi rate is posted. Go earlier in the day, not later at night. Walk along the malecon, see the Fort, dinner / drinks at Aguaceros or Jepols, ice cream at Mariposa (best in town) see Central Park and the church. Later on walk the Malecon again at night.

Carnival runs anywhere from mid February to early March. Almost every Sunday there will be festivities on the Malecon.

I hate to tell you but Sun Village has a serious lack of good evening entertainment....... Hmmmmmmmmm

I also suggest you go down to Teddy's Island BBQ Restaurant for some ribs and dump truck fries. THey are awesome.

On my recent trip went to the Bravissimo show twice. It really is magnifico! Your sons eyes will be open wide at the women's constumes. With your children I would recommend the Magical Nights package which will give you a bit of everthing.
