DR - is it rainy in the summer?

Hi,

I'm thinking of going to the DR in the summer (June, July and August). I'm interested in the area of Punta Cana but I've heard that it is very rainy there that time of the year. I found out that in July there would only be 17 days whithout raining. How long a day does it rain in general and how about hurricanes? If I go in the summer, is there any month that is better than the other? considering weather and temperature. Thank you in advance.

Rain rarely lasts more than 15 minutes at a time/day in the DR. And the East Coast is one of the areas where it rains less. You should not be concerned about rain, I would be concerned about taking too much sun!
