What is the general practice regarding collecting a security deposit from the renter of a condo, apartment, house or villa?

Is there a standard rate, or does this vary from place to place that charges a security deposit?

It WAS 2 or 3 months Rent When I Rented Here!

The Owner is "supposed" to put your deposit in a special bank acct.,But "Guess What?", the almost NEVER do!
I didn't pay the last 3 months rent before I left the house I was renting. The landlord was a "Drug Dealer" living in Toronto. He tried to "SCREW" me, I "Screwed" him back!
cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc

If you are talking about your condo,it depends on who you rent to. I would ask for 3 months security. Gives you a chance!
