Ok...what in the world is "berro?" My parents neighbor are from DR and they introduced my parents to berro...it looks like parsley, but the leaves are smooth. What is the English name for it, what plant does it come from?

Plain old watercress!! That's a amazing. This stuff cured a nagging cough...a cough that the specialist couldn't help me with. This is great!!
Thanks for the response.

Berro con Miel.

Here's one with obvious health benefits. In a blender, mix fresh orange juice, chopped carrots, chopped beats, and watercress, then strain into a glass, and drink. Try it for breakfast.

It's funny it's been mentioned just now because just today as I came back to the apartment from Puerto Plata, one of the guardians with whom I have become friendly came over to meet me at the car from the field opposite to the building with a bundle of... well, I would have been tempted to call it "weeds" but as I said, I'm friendly with the man. He asked me if I knew it and explained to me this was veeeero (berro). He had me try some and it tasted like something I had tasted before but I could not place it. I thought it would make a great salad actually ;) . He explained to me that he is secretly planting it in the field in front of the building and that he puts it into hot milk and then drinks the milk. An older guy joined the conversation and brought up the honey version and they both explained me what all it can cure and prevent and how good you will feel if you take it in the morning, or at noon and in the evening too (did I leave out one time? ... oh, yes... Tea time, of course! ;) )
Anyway... I as it tasted like food, I'd be willing to try it.

Berro needs thorough washing and desinfecting. For the later I suggest soaking in water with a few drops of white iodine. However, a couple of stiff drinks after a berro meal, will most probably kill the most recalcitrant bug, including amoebas...
