1. What would you say is the best place to live if you want to live as close to Santo Domingo as possible, but in a secure area that has nice beach access.

2. What would you say is the best place to live if location doesn't matter? If all you want is nice beach access, a reasonable amount of services (grocery stores, mechanical services, shopping malls, etc.)

The beaches near SD are not the country's best - you have Boca Chica to the east which is a nice beach but a seedy town, or Palenque and Najayo to the SW which are below average as DR beaches go.
A little further to the east you have Playa Caribe and Juan Dolio which are slightly better, and not too far from San Pedro de Macor?s where there are reasonable amenities in terms of shopping.

For the second question there are several possible answers - grocery stores you will get almost anywhere where there is a nice beach, and there are shopping malls in Santo Domingo, Santiago, San Pedro, La Romana, San Francisco and in the Punta Cana area, so check out the beach areas that are within reach of these places.

Apart from shopping malls, which are virtually non existent, except in Santiago & Santo Domingo, your description of a place to live sounds like Sosua, more than any other place in the country, but as you may know, it's far from santo Domingo.
Are you locked into being near Santo Domingo?

Boca Chica has no appeal whatsoever, the town sucks, the beach is average at best and if you knew what was in the water, you would not go in.
