Last year while buying an a/c at Pricemart they had a huge stack of Samsung (I think) 20" TV's for 4995.. I guess I should have bought a couple then...

Does anyone know the current price for a 20" at any of the places HB mentioned above? Do I have to wait for the Sunday paper to see the TV/appliance ads? I was hoping to pick up the TV today or tomorrow...

Believe me, it sucks to see the prices here compared to the US... For the cost of a 21" tube TV here, I could get a 20" name-brand LCD in the states...I just saw a 42" Sony LCD for $899 and a 42" Phillips Plasma for $999... but the shipping and taxes would kill the deal. I dont understand why electronics seem to have a 100% or so markup/taxes when theyre not imported from the US... I assume they come from Korea, Taiwan, Japan, etc...

I'm about to purchase a new TV (20 inch or so) and wanted to see if anyone had current prices from the various stores in POP and Santiago.

I paid RD8500 for a 20" Sanyo last June. I got it via a vendor who sells to the stores in Santiago.

LCD TV prices are crazy in The DR. Best bet is to buy one in The US and then take it with you when you fly in. Pay the guys in customs a small tip and you're good. Only drawback is you'll not be able to bring in a very large one this way, but it's good for 20 inches or less...

Jumbo had an ad in today's Liston Diario. Off the top of my head it was 20" TV for 5900 RD, 26 " for 12995 RD. One was Phillips, the other I don't remember. You can check the paper to see.

I fly in and out of the DR a lot. Maybe I should start bringing back TV and selling them to DR1 members. I agree the price of TVs in the DR is outrageous. That is probably why I do not have one here yet.
