I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many DR1 members who have assisted me in cooping with the sever beating, rape and sodomy, of one of my female friends in La Romana. Your companionate words and deeds are greatly appreciated by me and Rosa?s cousin, who is her primary caregiver.

Today a friend of mine took Rosa back to SD to see two highly qualified specialists for additional testing. I regret to say that she has sever and permeate brain damage and is not expected to ever recover from this senseless act. She will remain in a comatose state for her remaining days.

There is no way that I can ever repay the kindness that the DR1 community afforded me in the tragedy. Thank all of you once again for your kindness, prayers, and encouragement.

I am sorry to hear about her head injuries. Maybe as time goes by her prognosis might improve. Keep strong.

Rosa is fortunate to have a good friend and benefactor as you Chuck and a loving cousin who is her primary caregiver. Even though she will most likely remain in a comotose state she can survive for many years in this condition.
It will be a difficult and mainly thankless job caring for her....may God bless Ester and may we all continue to pray for them and assist whenever possible.

I am really sorry to hear of this.

You are fortunate to have some good friends and supporters. DR1 is full of good, kind and generous people!

Don't worry about ever trying to repay these acts of kindness - that is the way it is supposed to be. As the movie title says - Pay it Forward.

I am not a very emotional person, but your message brought tears to my eyes. Like any tragedy there are always rays of sunshine. This tragedy has renewed my faith in my follow man; both the members of this board and my Dominican friends have responded so positively. The outpour of kindness, support and compassion has touched me deeply.

Thank all of you so much.

Oh my God I don't know what to say. Your poor friend. I am so sorry.

I hope they catch them and they get what they deserve.

Maybe there will be a miracle.

Chuck I'm so sorry to read that your friend is going through this experience. I was wondering where you were. The threads are not as colourful without your presence, but now I understand.

Remember my long-winded monologue on what a woman wants from a man? Well your friend found that in you. You came into her life for a reason. I don't know why bad things happen to good people And I can't understand how monsters can grow and live amongst us. Really, I don't have the answer and I doubt I'll ever find it. But there are some great, kind and loving people in the world and they make the journey easier. One of my friends helped me see it all a little differently and gave me some hope. He suggested that if we make it through the dirt, dusty climbs, scraps and and falls with the help of our friends, we will finally cross the river to the other side. And there we'll be surrounded by those we have loved, those who have loved us, old familar faces and some new ones too. Your friend is not alone in this journey and the same can be said for you. I hope there is some comfort in that. Take care, Chuck.

I got a chance to see Rosa a couple of days ago. The only thing which seems to be alive in her body is her eyes which are beautiful. She is a human being that needs help. Her family is doing whatever they can but everything is SO expensive. I had to do a medical procedure there (fell while running outside and cut skin on my knee) and it cost me several thousand pesos. I can only imagine how much every Rosa's visit to doctor costs. A lot of people who read this CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Please try to help Rosa and her family. They are very sincere and honest people.

I spoke with Ester yesterday and you are so correct about the costs of her treatment, not to mention the pain medication alone. Oro para ella.

Once again I would like to thank the many members of DR1 for their prayers and assistance. I can not thank Avrora enough for her visit to Rosa and the time she spent with Ester. This was Avrora?s first trip to the DR and she had no prior plans of going to La Romana. Her help, compassion, and prayers are deeply appreciated by Rosa?s family and me. There have been many DR1 members who have shown their concern and I have been blessed by the outpouring of compassion many of you have shown.

Once again this is not an appeal for any financial assistance. I have been able to provide funds for the doctor, hospital, diagnostic testing, transportation and medicines to this point, along with help from her family. Additionally other DR1 members have helped with certain costs. It is my belief that all things happen for a reason; however, this situation is testing my beliefs.

Rosa returns to SD early next week for one more round of brain scans.

It was very difficult to see Rosa but such a fulfilling experience. I am really happy I got to meet Ester and her family. They are great people. I had wonderful time - could not have had a better vacation otherwise :) I am very much looking forward to going back.
