While reading the "Arabians rule the DR" thread, the discussion of powerful/rich Dominican families came up...so instead of hijacking that thread, I thought I'd start another one...but this may have been covered before, if so, I apologize.

Does anyone have a list of the most prominent families in the DR and what they do/did for their money? I know a few... Brugal, Bermudez, Hazoury... but I think a full list of who they are and what they do would be interesting reading...

Corripio is a very wealthy last name as well. Not sure where it lands on a top ten list but it's in there.

Vicini - Metaldom/various sucar cane field BIG $$$
Corripio - Groupo Corr. Pintura Popular/Santo Domingo motors? BIGGEST $$
Brugal - Brugal
Leon Jimenez - Cerveza Presidente/Tabacalera
Meniccuci - Works for Cerveza Presidente
Rainieri - grupo punta cana/Cap Cana
Hache - Hache
Tavarez - Cement
Avelino Abreu - Mazda dealer?
Manuel Gonz?lez Cuesta - CCN/ Super. Nacional/Some Movie Theaters?
Baez Figueroa - Banninter

All of them old money some had a president in their family (peynado, Viccini,baez)

Here are a few:

Abreu own Abreu Motors (Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Subaru, and Ssang Yong).

Le?n Jim?nez own Grupo Le?n Jim?nez includes Cerveceria Nacional (Presidente, Ambar, Bohemia), Tabaclera Aurora, Banco Le?n, the Centro Cultural E. Le?n Jim?nez, Marlboro, etc.

Gonz?lez own MegaCentro Mall, Centro Cuesta, Supermercados Nacional, La Despensa, Jugeton, and Jumbo.

Ramos own La Sirena, the Multicentros, Supermercados Pola, etc.

Hazoury own Grupo Abrisa (Cap Cana, Sinercon, Clave Digital, Aerodom, they are involved with UNIBE university, etc).

Bonetti are into Mercasid (Agua Crystal, Agroc?tricos, Flordom, Induveca, Sidport, Induspalma Dominicana, C?tricos Tropicales, etc)
