In a bold move Germany base TUI tourism division TUI Tourism Division (Europe's largest Tour Operator) will merge with UK based First Choice First Choice PLC (Britain's second largest tour Operator) to form TUI Travel PLC which will be based in the UK and be owned 51% by TUI.

This mega Tour Operator will have annual sales in the range of $23.4US BILLION and through it's Signature brand in Canada will have a toehold in North America, something TUI previously lacked. One likely consequence (IMHO), when contractual obligations end, will be the switching of the Canadian sales of Riu properties (partially owned by TUI) from Sunquest (a competitor owned by MyTravel PLC) to Signature which will be owned by TUI Travel PLC. This may take years depending on the actual contracts in place.

FYI.

Yes, RIU Hoteles belongs to TUI group, so it is just natural they will be pushing for in-house sales strategies and pushing for bookings in RIU resorts (sinergies, vertical integration).
