help!! im a student with a paper due soon!

hey everyone thanks for reading this. im a 9th grader in california, usa. im doing a big report on the dominican republic. doing internet research is sooo hard so any help would be very appreciated. i need to know stuff about the culture of dominican republic. maybe how women are treated and what kind of tolerance of religion there is. also, maybe some stuff about baseball. like how many dominican republicans are going into majore league baseball. if you could, please send me some links to sites or jsut tell me some of your thoughts on this. thanks so much! luv, heather

I'll give you some quick information on how women are treated in the Dominican Republic. Its sort of how it used to be here a while ago. I'm talking about abuse by their husbands. If the wife calls the police cause she has been beaten and the police comes and realizes that its between her and her husband then their just say that its marriage problems and they won't have anything to do with it. That's how I remember it when I was there 14 years ago. If I'm wrong then whoever wants to correct me, you're welcome! Hope this helps

Good Morning , Heather. Dominicans are very tolerant of religion. Most are Roman Catholic but there are many Mormons, Seven Adventists, Born Again Christians....etc. In the Dominican Republic Education is very important and almost everyone in high school wears a school uniform. The wages are poor for most jobs with a school teacher making about $400-600 AMERICAN per month. I am from Canada and my wife is Dominican. Dominican Women work very hard to support their family. The role of women has expanded greatly in the past twenty years and their oppornunities are expanding into area that are traditionally male. There are becoming more women in positions of power. Many Dominicans try to get work in the states, usually New York or Miami, then send money home to their families. Many young Dominican men like to come back and spend all their money on cars and gold chains, these guys are called Dominican jerks by the local people. DOMINICANS ARE VERY FRIENDLY BUT MOST ARE VERY POOR COMPARED TO AMERICANS. YOU CAN FIND MANY INTERNET PAGES ON THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROJECT.

Just thought I make a correction on one of your thoughts. It is not Dominican Jerks its Dominican Yorks. Its because many in the Dominican Republic think that when people leave the country over there they are coming to New York no matter where they're going in the U.S. Therefore they call them Dominican Yorks meaning that they come from New York.

Dear "Defender" I think Bob was inadvertantly right......ANYONE, not just Dominicans, who go to NYC is a "jerk". Keep in mind, there are only two kinds of people....those who LOVE New York and think it the center of the Universe and those who insist we give it back to the Indians (who would not take it now at any price!) Nothing serious....just a little humor for the day if you will...LOL
