Hi,

Does anyone know how to send email messages and have them arrive at Orange phones in the DR?

For example, in the USA, services work something like this:

email to 2024561212@vtext.com, and the message will be delivered automatically via SMS to their cellphone.

Does Orange support this publicly? If not, does anyone know of a workaround?

Reliable sources tell me Orange doesn't have as much capacity for this sort of application as the North American cell phone companies. They have two sort of similar services available, but neither is completely free. The closest one is SMS via the internet. You have to buy an Orange Card (pre paid refill card) and go to their orange.com.do site, click toward "minimensajes" and register a user name and password before entering the card number. You get a credit of SMS commensurate with the value of the card you input. You can send to any Orange phone. There is also something called Orange Mail. The Orange customer has to register for it and they can link their Orange phone to any SMTP compliant mail client to send and receive e-mail or just receive notifications of waiting e-mail.

You can also send and receive SMS between Orange and other carriers. Rogers, T-Mobile, and Cingular/AT&T Wireless are all SMS capable with Orange now.
