Currency and shopping

me and the hubbie are coming out to Sosua next January and cannot wait, could someone tell me what is the currency is in the dominican republic, I have hear it is american dollars but someone told me it is pesos. Also is there anywhere I can buy gold jewellery?

The currency is Dominican pesos.

Some things are priced in tourist areas in dollars, like tours & hotels rooms.
The rest is in pesos.
Right now, the exchange is approx. 32 pesos to 1 US dollar.
There are jewelery stores with gold jewelery, although it's not a Dominican speciality.
