I can only tell you about Ocean World. Tournaments are held on Tuesday and Saturday at 6pm. There is a $3,000 peso buy in and you receive $1,500 in chips. 1st and 2nd place are paid if 9 or less players, if more than 9 third place is usually paid. Blinds begin at 100/200 and double every 20 minutes up to a maximum of 1,600/3,200. I think the pay out is 70/30 for 1st and 2nd.

Cash games, not tournaments, are $1,500 RD buy in, no limit, 100/200 blinds and the blinds do not change.

Personally, I think the table at Paradise Hotel in Playa Dorada behind the plaza is a better table. Games are usually going every night, try popping in around 9pm. There's a lot of regulars they. I believe they also have craps.

I visited at Paradise's poker game two times.
I felt it was some kind of collusion and cheating.

Same guys were sitting at table all the time, showing their cards to each other, dealer made intended mistakes and take a look at cards what I folded, etc. Even sometimes showed folded cards to other players !

Playa Chiquita: Small buy-in tournaments during the week. A good cash game on fridays: No limit, 50-100, 5K buy-in, generally a full ring.

Ocean Sands: 3K tournament on wednesdays. Good cash game afterwards: No limit, 100-200, 5K buy-in early which ups to 10K later in the night. Always a full ring. Cash game on saturday. Attendance varies. 100-200 not sure of the buy-in.

Having never played in Playa Dorada, I can't comment on the collusion mentioned above, but I know there are a few players up here on the North Coast who've been banned from playing at a couple of casinos for just that sort of thing. The games at PC and OS are both clean

I have a couple of corrections here for Ocean World Casino poker:

In the mini tournaments on Tue/Sat's 6pm -
For the the RD 3,000 buy-in you get 5,000 chips. No re-buy-in. These tournaments usually have one or two full tables so about 8 to 20 players approx. Good crowd, mostly expats but some tourists and dominicans mixed in.

The games usually last about 1.5 to 3hrs with good cash games afterwards.

For the cash games the buy in is RD 1,500 or US$50. Blinds are RD 50/100 Rebuys are possible at any time between hands.

I have played poker at casinos in Santo Domingo and there is definetly collusion and cheating going on.

At Ocean World Casino we make sure this does not happen and have thrown out people in the past. We do not have an indenpendent operator running the table, we manage the game ourselves.

Thanks for correcting me, I'm brain dead from playing too much at Ocean World. I realized my mistake on the tournament chips and cash game blinds but haven't been able to post again.

By the way, assumptions on Paradise and uneasy feelings are well founded. Buyer Bewar!

what is common spirit of the poker games in D.R.?

is it more like "old friends are spending time and drinking beer, we don't
want any serious and aggressive players "

or

"everybody is welcome, we can play and we do ! Just try to save Your taxi money so You don't have to walk to home from the casino!"
