Does anyone know when the Monumento renovations are scheduled to be completed? I will be in the area in July and would like to go there. Will it be reopened by then?

I heard that 5 usd to the security guard will get you a private tour.

I'll give it a shot in a couple weeks...and let you know

Actually, it should be winding down soon, as I saw that a huge event with about 10 live bands being promoted. I think it's sponsored by Presidente. I'm not in STI now, so maybe one of the locals has more info on the event.

Ok, I saw the event at the Monumento being promoted again. It's called Verano Presidente and they're saying that they're bringing the beach to Santiago, which may explain the large piles of sand that I saw in a pic that AZB posted elsewhere yesterday. The event may be this Sunday, but I'm not 100% sure, as I only caught the end of the conversation on tv about the event.

Nice pics, AZB.
It feels like you're our roving reporter down there.
I've been forwarding your pics to a family member.

Thanks!

I would not bet on the finish production. These events usually are in the parking lot. The trees they brought in are about seven to ten years old without limbs, no leaf , I hope there is some real tree transporter was used. if not done correctly these tree be dead within a few days, with the heat and hardly any rain the care necessary to maintain require diluted fertilisers to feed the root system.

The woman and man who came to paint the horse statue came with their kids. The kids were also helping. This is the santiago spirit at best.

It's so nice to see them sprucing up the Monumento to honor my return to town.

Haha, I feel exactly the same way. I booked my ticket for the 15th, because my line of reasoning was that the construction had to be finished before Restoration Day. For anyone that's in Santiago at the moment, does that seem to be the case?
