I have heard both answers to this question now - so will post to the group.
On a flight from the DR to Canada for a Dominican citizen coming to Canada on a work visa connecting in Newark, NJ for a couple hours - - - Do you require a transit visa??? And if so how hard is it to get one, how much time is involved in paperwork??

Thanks

The U.S. does not give transit visas anymore. You would need a regular Visa. Just fly direct to Canada. There are direct flights every day from Puerta Plata.

I have heard it several times , that reguardless of your final destination at your first port of entry into the US , you MUST clear customs....and that means all paperwork needed to ENTER THE US would be required...

doesnt matter where your connecting flight is going.
