Froka fraud ????

in Sosua news a little further down...

15 may 2007 (!?!?!)

Thanks to the organisational skills of the Froka ladies (Tina Jansen and Jacqueline Born) everyone enjoyed a fantastic concert by the country's well-known bachata singer Zacarias Ferreira at the Car Wash on Friday 11 May.

Tina and Jacqueline also organised a New Year's concert last January, starring Yoskar Sarante. Now they went one step further and contracted Zacarias Ferreira.
Both ladies are great fans of Dominican music, and feel that more live concerts should be organised in Sos?a featuring the country's top bands. Tourists that have flown for nine or more hours to enjoy a Dominican holiday also want to enjoy typical Dominican cultural activities, such as merengue and bachata music. The owners of the Merengue Bar and Life Bar, for example, think that tourists are only interested in disco drone.

What is this????

Hard working business women who run the prosperous company.... hmmmm

8th of May in Sosua News...

"The ladies from Froka Services (Tina Jansen and Jacqueline Born) are hardworking business women who run the prosperous company known as Froka Service. They specialise in airline tickets, insurances (sickness, car, house contents, burglary, fire and travel insurance), as well as renting and managing houses for long-term tenants.
But Tina and Jacqueline are also great enthusiasts of Dominican music. Every year they organise a New Year's concert for their clients.

Zacarias FerreiraThis year the event was held at the Car Wash in Sos?a, with Yoskar Sarante as the star attraction. This concert was such a huge success that many clients urged the Froka ladies to organise a follow-up concert. Tina and Jacqueline just couldn't say 'no', so on Friday 11 May they have planned another concert, with a nationally known bachata band on the programme. The star performer will be Zacarias Ferreira, who is one of the best bachateros in the Dominican Republic. Two years ago he was awarded a Casandra, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the Latin American music world. His performances are always a terrific spectacle and it's a joy to see such a fantastic musician.
If you buy your ticket at the cash desk then the entrance fee is 400 pesos, but if you buy tickets beforehand then you will only pay 350 pesos. The location for this exciting evening will, of course, be the Car Wash in Sos?a.

See the 2 letters dated 16th. May. My German is ein bissen so someone else may want to summarise................
Sos?a-News - Your Opinion

Very short summary:

The Travel agency Froka has been emptied. The two owners have disappeared.
Just today there were 40 people at the airport and the tickets had not been paid by the two ladies.

On the street there is a rumour that the ladies have gone to paraguay.

Well if payments weren't made over to the insurance companies then, no, they obviously wouldn't be valid. But we don't know when/if the 'non-payments' started. Could go back some way if the report is true & the company has gone into liquidation. So maybe everyone who arranged policies through them should check with the insurance companies to see if they're covered to avoid any nasty shocks?

Here's another nice foto:

www.DomRep.ch :: Thema anzeigen - Froka geschlossen!!!

I hope these two "ladies" will spend the rest of their time in freedom looking nerveously over their shoulders.

Maybe 35.000 pesos does not sound like a lot of money, but you will know it is, if you have to earn it by honest work in the Dominican Republic!

I feel really sorry for all of you, who payed insurance through Froka!

Count me as one of the victims. A week ago today Booked and paid for 2 roundtrip tickets to Toronto leaving 24 June and returning 13 july. Find out today my reservations are good but that the tickets have not been paid for. Appears they left with the money but were nice enough to make the reservations.

In this country is there anything that gets done in cases like this???

In this instance, I really think people need to check on their insurances, tickets etc., but in my opinion, you cannot do anything. Check your transactions, cry if you must, kick a lamppost or something and move on.

This stuff will give all small businesses in the area a bad bad name.

I am sure that it's wise to check insurance etc, but I'm hoping that if you have the appropriate insurance policy and (in the case of car insurance, the card), the insurance will remain valid.
