I just got back from the cunada's in downtown Santiago and we live in Gurabo and it looks like the whole central and western area is without power. Anybody know anything?

Ours went out just before 10:00pm last night - we suspected it was a big one because both circuits went off (we live on the 'front line'). The blackout lasted for about two hours.

I look on the bright side - a break from the neighbours' loud aircon for a couple of hours is a rare treat.

The report says that the power outage included the entire South and North regions of the DR, and by midnight the CDEEE still had not determined the cause...

"Apag?n deja a oscuras regiones Norte y Sur 1:37 AM SANTO DOMINGO.- Las regiones Norte y Sur del pa?s, incluyendo un grupo importante de barrios del Distrito Nacional y la provincia Santo Domingo, quedaron a oscuras anoche cuando, tras producirse un apag?n general, cuyas causas los t?cnicos de la Corporaci?n Dominicana de Empresas El?ctricas Estatales (CDEEE) todav?a a medianoche no hab?an determinado."

Mirado:

They'll probably find that a local military or police have stolen the transmission cables.
Lord knows, they need the money!!!

Texas Bill

Texas Bill, you may not be too far off the mark. The CDEEE still has not given an official response on the cause of last night's general black out. There's talk of a "strange breakdown" on the line between Palamara and Hainamosa, that threw the entire country's interconnected energy system into disarray.

The great Santiago Blackout!

Ours went out just before 10:00pm last night -...- The blackout lasted for about two hours.

Wow, two whole hours of blackout, I hope everyone made it through the ordeal okay.

Most of the time we only get that amount of electric every 8-9 hours.

That's probably why we did not notice, everything was NORMAL here.

It wasn't the length that was comment-worthy, it was the fact that it appeared to be a nationwide blackout.
Our routine apagones are usually during the day and can last for much longer. When it goes out at night it's usually an "aver?a" as opposed to an apag?n.

Wish we had routines like that!

Ours are anytime, day or night. For instance, ours came on late last night and went off again around 4:30 am this morning. I don't expect it on again until perehaps 9-10 am, and if it does come on, it will be off again by 2pm until probabbly 7:30-8:30 pm tonight. We never know when the power will be on here, the previous time estimate is just that, a guess.

What really is annoying is when after hours of being off, they turn it on for about 5 seconds, many times during the outage. We get a break once in a while and it stays on for 1 to 5 minutes, just enougth time to think it will be on for awhile. Fortunately, the Inverter ignores those less than 40 second on times.

We live on top a hill here, we can see the lights all over the city and the surrounding areas. If you had the same view, we would be the dark spot. ;) lol
