could it be "royal" poinciana.....i know it is definetly poinciana but something tells me royal poinciana.........i could be mistaken.......

I thought the name was Framboyan. I dunno. Coud be mistaken. Grammy used to call it so. 'Framboyan'. She used to say ' Que linda esta la mata de Framboyan !

"Poinciana" is the proper name for the tree. It comes in three colors. The names "Royal" or "Flamboyant" refers to the red variety pictured. It can also be found in orange color, or in yellow color (much less common)

When I lived here in the fifties they where called Amapola, the flower fall off and turn into seed pods that are around 12-16 long, there many seeds and we used them as maracas. Now they are being grown in California, I have a causin that has a nursery,in Lake Mathews.
