A number of posts in the past had to do with prices of appliances in DR vs
US. Thought I would share this with you concerning ACs.
This week I purchased name brand 8000 btu for $167. Comes with contoller and good energy eff. rating. Not very big but that was the size I needed.
Also saw in newspaper last night: name brand 5000 BTU for 88 bux.

Trane??

I'm in the market for a very large room - high ceiling A/C unit - @ 18,000 - 20,000 BTUs.
* In pricing these units I note that Trane A/Cs cost approx. twice what all other brands cost! Why?
* Is the quality really that different or are the duties substantially more? Trane is, I believe, manufactured in the USA.
* Are A/Cs manufactured in other countries [ie China, Korea] simply that much cheaper? Value? Quality?
* Suggestions? Comments? Thank you.

I have two 18000 BTUs at my apt. Nedoca (from mexico) bought in Corripio. I paid 30.000 for each a year ago. It was for a business (I had a bar) but closed down so i moved it to my APT. Work well.
