In the market for new/ secondhand vehicle. After seeing so many new vehicles on the road and the high cost to buy.. I am wondering if I am on the wrong track and do car dealerships offer lease programs as per North America. Anyone bought or leased one recently and any suggestion on good buys, makes, etc.. Info would be greatly appreciated as not everyone you see can work for Leonel. Thanks.. M.

As SKY says, you cannot lease a vehicle in the DR.

From my experiences, the banks are prepared to finance new vehicles for a term of up to 5 years (6 years if it is a Toyota 4WD - go figure!) with a 30% deposit and 14% interest.

If you have import tax exoneration (which our company does), we found the the banks would not finance the vehicle.

We are having to look at offshore finance for our vehicles.

Just had a thought - it might be worthwhile contacting a local car rental business to see if you could arrange a long term rental. They might even purchase the vehicle of your choice if they had a rental contract for, say 3 years. This might be an economical solution. It might not too!

Good Luck!
