I am not sure either how to put the words wardrobe and plastic together to picture something I had seen, but for what it's worth, tienda Jimenez opposite to the Silvero Messon super market in Puerto Plata had some huge stackable transparent plastic "drawer" type boxes 4-sale about a month ago (don't know if they still have and didn't memorize the price).

That's because in the DR 'wardrobes' or 'armoires' are not usually used much.
Most newer homes have 'closets' built in as in North America.
Dressers (cavetas) are the norm for foldables like undergarments, sweaters, t-shirts etc.

I shopped long and hard for a white short womans bureau, and could not find anything but cheap childrens junk. But i saw a LOT of finer mohogany bureaus. Some 7 foot high!!, as a wardrobe would be.

me too ........the hunt goes on.
The plastic wardrobes/armarios were wood effect melamine material(they were the best ive seen so far...but still unimpressed by the price for basically a small plastic coffin:eek:gre:)

We had dressers (bureau's) custom made by a wood worker in SPM. Perhaps that would be an option where you are living. Reasonable price and well made compared to the cheap ones we saw at many stores.

What the OP is looking for are called "armarios, and are generally made of mahogany and lined with cedar. There are many antique ones on the market, but be prepared to pay major big bucks!!
AND you can have them made in almost any furniture factory.

Like another poster has said, these have been substituted by closets...

I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for. You may want to try Roica in Santo Domingo (they have a web site you can look-up), but they are not low cost. They also do kitchen cabinets. In our case, we did like MommC : custom made by a wood specialist.

I had one built several years ago for Mustard Seed in Montellano. It was not cheap, but I could probably get the name of the builder if you were interested.
