I was in The Dominican Republic in 1980 for three weeks on a mission trip. We were building "houses" and small public use buildings in areas damaged by a then recent hurricane. It looks as if things have changed abit since then... a tropical paradise tourist mecca! On sundays, we went to Santo Domingo and spent the day at a large hotel with a poolside buffet. It seemed quite rare at the time. During the work week (Mon through Sat) we slept at what we were told was Trujillos Summer home on the coast, from which his family fled the country by sea after his assassination. The coast seemed fairly desolate around there at the time. The place was quite run down. Is it still there or has it been re-developed into a thirty six star resort? And what town was it near?

Thanks

Probably San Cristobal.

Nothing has happened since then--at that location--except that there was a recent article in the papers about how it could be developed into an ideal tourist resort....
