We are under the understanding that we pay $10 each when we arrive and $20 each as we leave. Our tickets did not incl any of these taxes (booked with Thomas Cook UK) Is the departure tax still in operation. We are staying for 14 days

Would be nice to know if there are any others reading these boards who are flying with us!

Although I am not flying on 5th Sept I can confirm that you will have to pay $10 when you enter and another $20 when you leave.

You will receive a blue form on the plane on the way out which has to be filled in and handed to passport control when you arrive, together with a tourist card costing $10 which you queue to purchase on arrival.

When you leave you will be asked to present your boarding pass and pay $20 departure tax.

Enjoy your holiday!

Hi sue we go every year for our hols we love it and we usually buy our tourist card before we go from the domincan republic embassy in liverpool it saves queueing when you arrive if you have already filled them in its not much difference in price I think we paid ?8 last time and that was in january this year you just photocopy the picture bit of your passport and enclose postal orders and self adressed envelope it usually takes a couple of days.you cant send cheques though it must be postal order. we are going again on the 12th november, cant wait

That's US$16 in advance or US$10 on arrival? US$12 more for a couple is a few Presidente's that you could buy!

My view is that queuing for the tourist card is a pain after a nine hour flight, but generally you still get to the luggage belt before the suitcases come off, buying it in advance doesn't save any time really, so you may as well save your money.

Your entry card MUST be paid for in US dollars. I actually witnessed people being escorted through to the bank in the airport to change Dominican Pesos into US dollars, then back again!
