Jill, we were at the Iberostar Dominicana in April of this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although we did not take our boys(ages 9 & 11) I would not hesitate to take them there. They have a kids club for the younger kids. There were always lots of activities going on at the beach and pool. If your children are not strong swimmers, please watch them in the ocean - it gets deep quite quickly, but we did not notice any undercurrents at all. The beach and pool are always very clean, as are the grounds. There are many birds (flamingos, peacocks, chickens, etc) freely walking the grounds. You can walk along the beach for hours in either direction. There is ok snorkeling close to the shore if your children snorkel. There is a neat "flea market" just 20 minutes walk down the beach where you can barter for souvenirs.

With regards to the food - we found there were always the usual foods that kids look for: french fries, hamburgers, ice cream, etc. We, as adults, also enjoyed the food during our stay. We ate at the buffets, the Italian, the beach bbq and the Mexican restaurants. The Higuey buffet was the better of the 2 buffets (it seemed to have more selection) and the food at the Italian and Mexican restaurants were excellent. The beach bbq was good too, but it was the same food that we ate there at lunchtime every day. The salad bars are excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful, despite the language barrier.

I think taking kids on a trip like this to a resort that caters to many different nationalities is a much better experience for the kids than the usual trip to Disney....

Enjoy your trip :)
