Through Claro/Codetel?
If so, do you already have the telephone installed?
If so, 1 to 2 weeks.
Of course, we live in the world of ma?ana, so there can easily be delays.

Is there something else valuable and available in that area ? :paranoid:

No, nada. So I reformulate my question : how long does it take to get a phone line and a dsl connection .......assuming that I'm lucky ? :cheeky:
There probably is no other viable option in that area.
We have DSL offered from our cable company, here in the Sosua/Cabarete area, and that's just in the last year.
I suspect that Cabrera's a bit small to expect to find that option.
So back to the phone company.
They really can be slow and uncooperative at times.
First, you have to meet all their requirements, whatever they might be.
Deposits, ID, maybe a guarantor. I'm not current on their requirements for new customers, so you'll have to check up on that.
You'll need to know the phone number of someone who lives really close to you, as they will ask for that.
They will probably tell you that it will be done in 2 weeks, but it can stretch out to be a lot longer, so I might suggest that if you have a Dominican friend, like a doctor, lawyer, teacher, cop, someone who might be able to exert a bit of influence, it could be good to ask them to come along when you make the application for the new line.
BTW: The 768 kbps line is pretty ideal.
