Hi, this forum is a great database ... :cheeky:

I'll visit Sosua (can change destination still now because not booked right now) Oktober first time, beeing little burned out :ermm:.

Want to relax, may be try some trips to anywhere like gri gri, playa grande and/ or to yamao al norte daytime and having fun nighttime, like to meet friendly people.

Do I find in front email contacts with dominicans who are interested showing me (singel man 47, Germany) mid of october (46 'th week 2007) land and people? Problem is I don't speak spanish, conversation is only english spoken possible or I have to learn spanish really fast ... :cheeky:

Ciao

Peter

Making internet contacts ahead of time for a "guide", usually doesn't work out as well as just meeting the folks once you arrive.
Laguna Gri Gri, Playa Grande and the river in Jamao, are all great adventures, and there are a lot more.
You can just go out there yourself and meet people once you get there, or if you meet someone who is like minded who you want to travel with, then that's good too.
Going with the flow is what works best in the DR.

PS: There are some Laguna Gri Gri pics in this thread.

Your first stop in Sosua should be Rocky's Bar and Grill (spelling?). The owner is an expat and many expats frequent the place. You will meet some English speaking people there and they can be helpful to you.

Others here can give you the address and directions.

hi peter 47

i was a recent 1st timer to sosua. really like it. hope to be back someday.

since i don't know you i wonder what's your agenda? girls? diving? drinking? buying a apt? checking out the far flung reaches of the place?

personally i think the best skill you can bring there is the ability to ride a motorcycle. if you can rent a fairly new one at a good rate you can GO FAR.

i'm sure marco can help you with that.

enjoy!

Frank

By the way, do you know and recommend Willkommen in der Ferienpension *Casa Colibri*, Sosua - Dominikanische Republik? I prefer this little charming hotel because they seem to be really friendly german guys and pricing is low.
Sorry I took so long to reply.
I hadn't noticed the question.
My German is not great, but this is my impression from the website.
If the pricing shown is true, then I would agree that it's a good value.
If they are playing the con game of showing pricing per person, based on double occupancy, then it sucks.
Other than that, it's an ok place with a nice swimming pool, albeit a bit far from downtown Sosua.
If you happen to be entertaining the thought of bringing a guest home with you, it will not be allowed.

Like many places Casa Colibri in Sosua has had good reports and poor reports. (Since RockyBar is a proprietor himself, the code of conduct probably forbids him from mentionning this.) German is spoken at many places including Hotel Casa Valeria -- which place also is not (other) guest-friendly.

But again: what level of life are you looking for? Quiet or lively or outrageously active. There's even an All Inclusive (Casa Marina) in Sosua if that turns your crank.

Unless their policy has changed, it is guest friendly, and certainly one of the better values in town.
BTW: You may not be aware that Paul & Mayela sold the hotel a few months back, and it is now owned and operated by a Dutch couple, who seem like very nice people.

Hi DR specialists,

tnx for your great hints, sorry for delayed answering, I?m still busy.

@Daflysta
As I wrote I?m little burned out, my only drugs are my work ... I like to go out for nearly 2 weeks, DR last minute flights are available. ?Want to relax, may be try some trips to anywhere like gri gri, playa grande and/ or to yamao al norte daytime and having fun nighttime, like to meet friendly people.? That?s all, diving/ strand and also doing nothing is not the best for me. Finding a girl/ women would be great and will be no problem this place (yes, I?m a goodlooking middleaged (bad dancing :ermm: ) single man ?), but if possible I would like to meet a women all over the time like a holiday friendship, wouldn?t feel good changing and using the girls often as a glas of water, that's not my thing. Did try to get contacts in front by Welcome to the new Badoo! but that?s takes to much time for me. Never rode a motorbike, only bikes ? ;-), but hiring a car would be an option.

@Rocky
Prices are per room, doesn?t matter if 1 or 2 persons using the rooms. They wrote they are guests friendly and allows bringing guests on the rooms. I will keep in mind your hotel ...

@Me_again
I like hotels that are a bit far away rom live, the mix is the best for me: live in centre reaching by feet, quite hotel, finding perhaps a women for more than 1 und less than 14 days except I fall in love ?. valeria hotel is a great tip, that looks really interesting for me, thanks! I will ask them if they are guests friendly.

Hi Peter,

I've stayed at Casa Valeria a few times over the last year or so and they always appeared to be guest friendly, but you may need to check with the new owners.
Just to add, the contact email address on the Casa Valeria website still appears to be addressed to Mayela who previously owned Casa Valeria.
So you may need to find a new email for the new owners or alternatively phone them on the number advertised.

I will try to get all the correct info, website, new email address, ASAP.
In the meantime, one can phone them at 809-571-3565, or in the case that's an inconvenience, anyone is welcome to email me and I'll pass it onto them.

Peter,
If I may.... Allow me to clarify something.
I am fortunate enough to have full occupancy all year round, so this is not about attracting client?le.
This is about DR1ers giving good valid info to those who ask.
I'll lay it on the line.
I believe you're being lied to.
There's no way that's the price per room at Colibri. ( I will double check later on, and eat my words if I'm wrong)
And if they told you that they are guest friendly, that would mean that you could bring your girlfriend and check her in, but don't think that you could have a different girlfriend the next night.
That won't fly.
That aside, even if all things were even, Casa Valeria is a way better option.

Eating my words.
Just called them and they quoted, as you said.
Just yesterday a couple of guys told me they reserved there, and were being charged $45 US.
Over the phone, the fellow says 18 Euros.
I don't know which is true anymore.

Well, thank you Bigbird.
Now it's all becoming clear.
Like I said, my German ain't great.
I didn't know that someone opened a "Casa Colibri" here in Sosua.
Now the whole pricing thing makes sense.
All my references were about Hotel Colibri, and I knew those weren't the correct prices, nor is it guest friendly.
Thanks for straightening that out, Bigbird.

PS: By the picture at the bottom of their homepage, it looks like a private house, not an actual hotel.

I didn't know that Casa Valeria was in fact guest friendly -- based my opinion on an old post on this site perhaps a year ago . . .

Nor did I know that Paul and Mayela had sold . . .

So I should just keep quiet I suppose.

. . . but it is up and running with a website again

Casa Valeria
